optional extras
« on: October 03, 2011, 06:49:21 pm »
Hello all only me again.

Im going to view a car tomorrow and its has DSG gearbox brilliant on my check list but that seems about it the salesmen said it has usual GTi spec so by that i think he mean bog standard.

Im just wondering how many of the optional extra's can i retro fit to the car once ive got it. It pretty cheap thats what is tempting me to it.

Its a 55 plate if that helps. I know the Xenons cant be retro fitted but what else can I add without huge amounts of hassle.

Oli

Thats a bonus, Xenon's i know are going to be pricey but the car seems to alot cheaper. Im also looking at cruise control, RCD510 and highline display. Maybe some more also.

Everything can be retrofitted. Just a matter of £££.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

All of those options should be relatively easy to retro-fit, xenons are the most involved, if the car has winter pack that would be a bonus as will give you washer jets ready for xenon retro fit.

Cruise is easy as is RCD510.

Highline can be a bit more involved but a 55 reg will be easier than post 2006, as it should have a 962 cluster if its midline.

You might be very suprised though as some people have no idea what options cars have, mine wasnt advertised with xenons but the picture told a different story  :happy2:  good luck and if in doubt take lots of pictures then we can disect it after-wards

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Might be worth checking whether it is a import as well. A lot of the early imports had no options.  :happy2:

My car has pretty much every option apart from the bucket recaros

The ones I'd say were worthwhile are:

Xenons.. if you have never had a car with xenons then try one and you will never wants old 'candles for lights' again.
Parking Senors.. Im rubbish at parking so these are always handy!
DSG... 80% of the time i leave it in auto and the very odd occasion you find a nice B road that isnt full of tractors and caravans then push over into manual and its a very responsive gearbox.
18" wheels... why they ever did the GTI on 17s is beyond me.

The rest of the options I have are ok and nice to have but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't there. The MFD2 is ok but compared to modern systems or even tomtom on my iphone lent on the dash... its woeful.

Ive got the prices of the options from new actually. quite interesting.. these are all OTR prices

18" monza2 £465
Cruise Control £270
MFD2 satnav £1845 (includes 6cd arm rest and highline dash)
Arm rest (on its own) £120
Xenon £750
Full leather £1645
Luxury Pack2 (Folding mirrors, auto dimming door mirrors, rear reading lights) £190
Highline computer upgrade £50
Parking Sensors £315
Leather recaros £2395
Sunroof £515
Winter pack (heated seats, washer jets, headlight washers) £330

Hi Jedi, can you tell me if it would be possible to have these options fitted by the dealer, not as a new car factory fit,if so would the prices be the same as you have listed cheers Dougie

with the exception of cruise and sensors i doubt VW will even acknowledge that a retrofit is possible

If you want heated seats they are pretty difficult to retrofit.
I have had a fair few mods retrofitted myself and most are pretty easy to do apart from highline.
I wouldn't bother with parking sensors if you are considering it, could get the reversing camera instead, looks much better.
