^ Why do ITG always let down the looks of their products in some way? Surely that wired-type hose could have been silicone like the rest of this kit.

On the Mk5 Golf GTI they let it down with those crude blocks of foam which were in fact an afterthought. Surely they didn't run out of development budget again!

Nothing to do with development budget restrictions, just a case of using the best material for the job, this part of the kit needs more flex / bending than silicon will allow, so flexible ducting was used.

....A component not being on frequent show is a lame excuse for poor design - Not poor functional design but as an entity. But I understand the stated need for flex. I'm just not convinced that the ITG team care enough about the aesthetics of engineering. Still, it doesn't really matter - Just my opinion.

I understand what you mean Robin, however like Steve says, there is a lot of flex in that part of the engine and so silicone hosing wouldn't do as it would stretch and pop off one of the clips somewhere along the pipework. A sliding connector would work well and be more aesthetically pleasing, but would cost quite a bit to develop and manufacture. This means that as a cost effective method it was the best solution.

Agreed, that Forge one looks even worse! Much worse!  

I suppose that as I've spent my whole life involved in various design fields (including some industrial design), I am hardwired into believing that good design should not only function efficiently and as intended but should also look good. As an example, Porsche products integrate industrial design and aesthetics particularly well. It's always part of a designer's psyche to be analytical and critical.

Relating more to this thread, John (Hurdy) has always consciously integrated form with function to the best of his ability and it's very much part of what modding cars is about.

Overall, I'm loving what I'm seeing you do to this project, John

Could you not have made a system yourself? I would have bought a bmc cda air box and just bought a silicone hose off the net and the air hose is cheap too,unless you got yours for nothing then that answers that

And im not convinced its made any gains either. 

At least ITG have knowledge of filtration and develop everything themselves.  All forge do, is buy filters from other companies and fit some pipes onto them.  In the case of the twintake and the 1.4TSI its just a BMC carbon filter with some fancy looking pipework.

Definitely no NOS this time, but i may still get tempted by a Snow Performance Water/methanol kit.

Also looking at these as the OEM paddles are too small.
