MDI ipod armrest question
« on: October 11, 2011, 03:25:03 pm »
Ok... So i currently have an mfd2 and an armrest 6 cd changer.

Im looking to swap to an rcd510 DAB and a MDI armrest thing so I can plug in my iphone.

First question is... Can I use the existing wiring that goes from behind the headunit to the arm rest... or does the MDI require different wiring?

Second question is... would the ipod lead from the MDI work if it was then plugged into an iphone extension lead so I can mount the iphone on the dash so I can still use tomtom... Having my iphone in the arm rest isnt much use really..

I guess the 2nd question is 2 part in that... would the lead work if it was extended... anyone tried this...and does plugging into the MDI disable the iphone so I couldnt use tomtom while playing the ipod anyway?

Hmmm, very interesting questions. I'm in exactly the same boat. (but on a slightly different seat from you)   lol

I have a factory fitted CD Changer, same as you. I have just recieved my MDI (brand new for £38!)   so am keen to find out if I need a new loom or can I use my old loom. I've already upgraded to a RCD510 and noticed there's no seperate loom for the CD Changer.  :stupid:

I already have the wee short ipod lead but wud prob like to use an ipod lead so I can use my phone whilst driving (sat-nav) or so that others in the back can change tunes, etc.

Any helpful info will be mucho appreciated.  :happy2:

IIRC the MDI uses a different loom to the CD changer/iPod dock.

Not sure about the other questions
