Vag com cheap

Sorry if this is the wrong place i have been looking for a second hand vag com for ages and came across this site in gumtree

I took the plunge and it was delivered the next day and works fine on my can based mk5 golf.
Is this fake because i dont understand why it was so cheap and works 100%

Only rosstech make genuine cables and they're from America. They cost a fair bob but they come with support. Others have had problems with fake ones including not working and havin to use old cracked versions of software.

A friend of mine bought a Chinese copy and after a month or so, the CAN chip went, leaving it only suitable for older K line cars. Ok if you have a Mk4 I guess!

The seller wasn't interested, and told him that his car broke the cable! So he bought another one. That means he has spent £160 on unofficial unsupported cables. For £250, he could have got the real deal.

Plus I'd rather support Ross Tech directly for the excellent work they've done with VCDS.

I agree, I wouldn't plug anything into that little purple socket unless it came fully researched, developed, de-bugged and supported.
Ross Tech are the best in this field for all of the above and worth every penny imho.

I have a friend that lets me borrow the cable.. he has 3 VAG cars so was worth him buying the real deal etc

When he spoke to rosstech they said the software is free demo download available from their site but its a chip in their cable that tells it its all registered and lets you do everything?

I bought one from them and they are excellent!  I had a problem with the eeprom (common security function) and they fixed it online for me.  Excellent service and they really know their stuff about long coding etc.  I know its not the real deal but if you are going to buy a copy then get it from these guys.

So did I and it ended up going in the bin.....

I now have a genuine Ross Tech cable  :happy2:

i can understand why people want there own copy of vag com, for code reading etc.

the thing im on the look out for is the Vag Parts catalogue
