Mfd2 security code
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:13:52 pm »
Recently purchased a mfd2 for my 05 gti. Got the code from the dealers today but the stereo won't let me put it in. I know you do it by turning the button right knob to choose what numbers you want, but ir just doesn't do anything.

Does the ignition have to be on when putting the code in as I was just turning the unit on manually.
Or can anyone think of anything else it could be.

Cheers

Have only had my car for 6 months + this is my first post - so don't expect too much!
Anyway, took a look at the owners manual (3.4 MFD DVD English 09.2005) & it does not explicitly state that the ignition has to be switched on as part of the process to enter the safety code.
However, it does go on to say that "...the unit will be locked for 1 hour if an incorrect code is entered twice. The code can be entered again after this one hour has elapsed. The ignition key must not be removed during this hour".
So I would guess that you need to have key + ignition on.
Hope this helps.

This is what the screen displays when I try to enter the code. I'm trying to scroll the numbers across but nothing happen. The only thing it will let me do is remove the cd.

Also this is the back of the rcd300 I currently have in. Notice the two connecters bottom left. Now the new mfd2 has the same but only the White one fits?? Does this matter??

It should just be a case of twisting the right scroll wheel as you say then pressing it in for each number and pressing OK at the end - if that doesn't work, it suggests the unit may be faulty.

I do have both units: RNS MFD2 and RCD300 on two VW touran, a good one and one with front damage from an accident. Both of them in good conditions. I wanted to switch the navi with the cd unit, but I saw that I have to change also the wiring, that is different. So, until I will have time to do it, I said to put back each one. But... surprise! The MFD2 asked me the code (that I don´t have).
In the begining was not working either the procedure with twisting the right scroll wheel as alexperkins said, then pressing it in for each number and pressing OK at the end. Than I took it off again, than back again. Started to work, but ....what about the code? Why the ECU is not recognising the navi anymore???
With the RCD300 was no problem, is working like new.
Now I´m trying to find the code to proceed with the work.
I also find the problem with the two connecters bottom left. My solution: dismantled the connectors on the two wirings and installed on the other one. This until I will switch the entire cables on the two cars.
What a work, but I´m happy to do it myself.

If somebody can help me with the code of MFD2, this is the serial n. VWZ1Z7E5239229.

Thanks!

Volkswagen have an adapter available that resolves this problem. Don't let the Parts Chimp tell you they don't do one, like my dealer tried. White input is FM, cream input is AM.

Partnumber is 7L6 051 551 (7L6051551) and this is available for around GBP£28 from any Volkswagen parts department.

Ok Loucyffer. Thank you for the information.
I guessed that on both units (RNS MFD2 and RCD300) the difference between the connectors is only the shape, not the function. That´s why I choosed to dismantle the terminal on the wire, a very easy operation and ... costless.
