Black rear bumper - removing polish marks?
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:30:56 pm »
Ever since I've had my Golf (nearly two months) there's a few streaks of polish that appear after I've washed it, and for the love of scrubbing I can't get them off!

When I picked up the car there was a buildup of excess wax/polish around panel gaps, and I'm guessing this is what's on the bumper..

Does anyone have any suggestions on what chemicals and/or cleaning aids I can use to get the bumper 'back to black' and polish free?

Thanks,
John

Depends if it's wax or polish residue. TBH all-purpose cleaner and a stiff brush should help. Sounds crazy but groundnut oil has been recommended as the best thing to get and keep black plastic trim looking black for longer.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

dried on polish try a pencil eraser
Oil based dressing are good and can last but they need time to dry or they will streak.

Peanut butter (smooth) will get rid of polish on unpainted parts  :happy2:
