« on: October 26, 2011, 06:08:09 pm »
Hi all I have a mk 5 gt tdi on an 04 with a sunroof I have had it a few months and never had any trouble with it up until now

I got in it today to drive home from work to find the head lining quite wet around the interior light I have since checked the front drain holes look clear and and when I popped part of the interior light down no water come out so I'm not sure how or where the water is coming from

Anyone else had this problem ? I would be eternally greatfull for any help

Jon

It's highly unlikely that water has risen into the roof area from anywhere. The only remaining conclusion is that the drains are blocked or the seal is faulty around your sunroof. Do you have any idea if the sunroof is original fit or an aftermarket fit?

I'd probably look to a local, reputable sunroof fitter for advice.

To test the theory that water is getting in from outside, try colouring a watering can full with a little food colouring, then sprinkling it in specific places on the outside of the vehicle. You'll see if it makes it's way into the lining.

The seal should allow water inside a tiny bit. Also, the drain tube may appear to be clear on the bottom side. You will need to slide the sunroof all the way back and locate the exit ports up top that lead to the 'A' pillars. Use flashlight if needed and then you will need to use a heavy gauge wire to clear those two ports (one on each side). You should be able to pour water in there and have it run out the bottom, but if they plug up there, water will overfill the pan and absorb into the liner. :happy2:
