Are OEM Mudflaps available for ED30 / R32???
« on: October 28, 2011, 11:53:56 am »
Morning Gents, can you tell me if rear mudflaps were available for the Edition30 / R32??

I have an R-Line rear bumper fitted to my wife’s Golf and would like to fit front and rear flaps to help minimise the crap and tar that gets stuck onto the car during the winter.  :sad1:

I contacted my local VW parts and all they had listed was Non GTi and GTi......
I told him the profile of the R-Line bumper sat broader than the GTi rear bumper and looked the same profile as an Edition30 or R32......
He was unsure and said that the GTi flaps “should” fit.
I asked him to contact VW to enquire about the correct mudflaps but as yet no reply back from them.

I know mudflaps are a bit Marmite but I’m sure there would be others who have enquired and have a definitive answer or have O/E flaps fitted.
Any info would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Des.

Far as i know you can fit to the front but not on the rear of the ED 30.

As above, fronts fit, rears don't.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yep as mentioned above
I bought a full set of GTi flaps and the fronts fitted perfect but the rears were completely wrong (straight edges so wouldn't go around the curved part of the bumper).
I took the rears back to the dealers and he checked the systen and it said "not for anniversary models" - ED30 is classed as anni

I now have fronts fitted but no rears  :sad1:

Thanks for the replies.
That's a bummer.......... :sad1:
I wonder if flaps from a Passat or something else within the range might be close???
Might go for a wander round the local stealers carpark for a look at bumper profiles to see if I can find anything.

If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Thanks again!

..........on my last GTI it had  F & R mud flaps & to be honest you still get s**t thrown all over the car. I won't bother with the front's on my ED 30. I would save the cash mate. :happy2:

Heres my tuppence on mudflaps ...In the old days i was doing alot of mileage and had one of the first tdi golfs mk3 and due to living where i do decided after several months to fit mudflaps. Immediately i noticed 5mpg difference which was amazing went from 55mpg down to 50mpg on a tank (around 600 miles on a tank) and that was for several tanks. Also noticed that the car around the rear windscreen got alot dirtier ! Took the mudflaps off and mpg went back to where it used to be and windscreen stayed cleaner.
We still have the 1996 MK3 in the family and nephew thrashes it about and it still doing great nearly 200k on it and still on same clutch and major components have never been replaced......it has been written off under insurance 3 times though ! Once by a premier footballer crashing into my wife in the snow !

SO IN SHORT I DON'T LIKE MUDFLAPS

Thanks for the post, to be honest, I never expected to see any difference in MPG, I was simply thinking that it might help reduce the tar spots and side sills from getting chipped to death.

I'm in two minds now as it appears there are only fronts available and from reading through your post.......

Thank you!

This is the reason i left the fronts on - to stop the salt, etc from chipping the side skirts and lower doors

When I fitted my R32 rear bumper I managed to get the Gti ones to fit. When first fitted there is quite a larger gap where the profile of bumper is not straight. Warmed them up with a heatgun while gently pressing into the bumper and they fit perfect, no gaps visible

That was my first thoughts as I've just had the side sill painted and wasn't wanting them to get peppered heavily over the winter months.
The local council in their wisdom decided to mix 1/3rd road salt, 1/3rd playing field ash and 1/3rd sand to grit the roads up here and no doubt they'll try the same scam again this winter so was really keen to fit flaps in the hope that it minimises the damage......
