Savilles Skoda - Kidderminster AAAARGH
« on: October 31, 2011, 11:14:16 am »
Frustrated guys.  :fighting:

Booked a major service (and brake fluid change) for the Golf last week at Savilles Skoda (Kidderminster), expecting to receive this quantity of service items replaced as the same engine is used by them in the Octavia, AND had decent service from them before (on our Mk4 GTI);

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing

How times change.

If you click on the link above (what's included tab), they did everything, EXCEPT;

Replace the AIR filter (instead they blew the old one out :stupid:)
Replace the Fuel filter
didn't even bother to vacuum the car.

Just spoke to the service manager, and they don't do these items on their similarly engined Octavia :confused: They would charge extra! He apologised for the fact I wasn't happy, but failed to offer putting things right. This extra work amounts to £90 and VW would have included it.

They were only £18 cheaper than VW, but when you factor in the above, were more expensive. It would have been cheaper and more straighforward to go to VW instead.

More the fool me!

Please be aware if booking at a non VW dealer, eventhough you expect, at the very least, the same level and quality of service for the same given car!

I WILL NEVER USE SAVILLES AGAIN.

You could replace the air filter yourself - IIRC they are about £4 from unipart and a 10min job to do yourself :happy2:

 Not too sure about the fuel filter though :confused:

Thanks.

It was more about the principal of the matter.

Not a clue how to do the fuel filter, but I shouldn't be doing it! :fighting:

I am puzzled as to why you would take your VW to a Skoda dealer and expect them to use a VW servicing schedule.
Also why you didn't ask what it included before you booked it in.  :confused:

Been to this dealer before with our previous MK4 GTI and had very good service. That was 4 years ago. They did those services to VW std, so why would I assume any different now?

After all, they use the same engines in their cars.

More their attitude once they have your money. Customer service out of the window.

Assuming its a petrol engine VW wouldn't have changed the fuel filter either.  At a major service they would change the spark plugs on a petrol engine OR the fuel filter on a diesel.  VW view the petrol fuel filters as a non service item.  The devil is in the small print...

Small print to me is "get out clause"

Once bitten twice ........................................

Will go to my local Indy next time. Main dealers made that choice easy for me next time around.

Its strange they blew the air filter out rather than replace it but if you had taken your VW to a VW dealer they would most likely have followed the VW service regime to the letter.  Mine do...  And they never change the fuel filter because its not in the schedule.

air and fuel filter wouldn't have been done unless you were at the mileage or time.

although it is good idea to change them earlier as they are not that expensive
