Sounds like it could be your cam follower. Prob best to get it checked cos if it is this will eventually damage your cam. New followers not to expensive.

Hmm, how do I check to see if it's the follower? The bloke who checked put on of those stethascopes on the fuel rail and over other parts of the engine and reckoned the. Lose came from the fuel pump, will get him to check the cam followers too. What noise would they make? Also someone else I spoke to reckoned it might be tappets?

The cam follower is always worth checking if its def the fuel pump. Have a look in the how to guides troubleshooting section good few posts on this that I've just been have a read of myself. Else if the engine sounds tappety / like a diesel then it's prob the old cambelt tensioner issue. Although as others regularly say our engines always sounds like that a bit

There's a great guide on how to check your cam follower on here.

The part itself is only cheap and worth checking every 10k or 5k at stage 2+ IMO

To add, for the price of a new follower (£35 ish), its simply worth putting a new one in once you've got the hpfp and old follower out  :happy2:

I bought my last one from JKM and factor in some P&P, I think it was around the £30 mark, can't remember exactly, but that was last year so I added a bit on for inflation

Is it something easy to check then as I've been told changing the fuel pump is a crappy 3 hour job?

Cheers mike spot on, actually read all of the post :o) that guide looks very good so will give it a go and start with the follower. Hopefully it'll cure the noise, anyone ever had the follower cause a tapping noise or does it tend to cause other issues?

Parts on order cheers guys. Spoke to my local specialist who said he'd charge me 3 hours labour to replace the cam follower, he even read the how to guide on this site. Is there any reason it might take this long, mine has the 2 metal pipes if that makes any difference? Just seems a long time after reading the guide?
