Mods to stop or limit wheel hop
« on: April 10, 2009, 02:11:52 pm »
As the title says really chaps, what would people say is the easiest way or reducing it or stopping it because its by far one of the worst I've experienced in any car. With it being wet it's proving to be very easy to spin the tyres up on the hill coming out my street, obviously I back off or the traction steps in to sort it out, but its limiting the car being able to put its power down in any of the lower gears even in the dry to some degree.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Luke

The best way is change the way you use modulate the accelerator IMO!

Poly insert = better
Uprated lower mount + insert = better still
Full set of uprated mounts = eliminated.

It's caused by the engine and transmission rotating under torque, so the hop is the whole lot moving around on its mounts. An LSD won't cure it.

Yet to get 'hop' with my VF Engineering mount, doesn't mean it won't appear and catch me out though..

The best way is change the way you use modulate the accelerator IMO!

TBH I didn't get the improvement everyone else is reporting with the ECS insert, that's why I'm swapping to the full BSH setup. It's as Danza says, full set of mounts is what's really required (and ideally smaller wheels with thicker tyres) but the mounts will increase cabin vibration and harshness.

.... x2

But these other items do contribute to helping. Suspension can help too.

The Quaife won't eliminate it but it sure does jump on it very quickly and smoothly - Any judder feels much softer.

Dogbone engine mount is my next mod after sorting my Recaro Sports upholstery.

Cheers for all the info chaps, I'll see if it changes when going from the standard sp 1 to parada's when i get them back from the re-furb but 5'll certainly be investing in some uprated mounts and bushes  :drinking:
