K04 is a piece of cake as it is under the bonnet.  K03 slightly more difficult, as the cars needs to go up on axle stands as it is located on the turbo.  I tried changing mine but I couldn't get the car high enough with stands so I gave it to my mechanic to fit, took him 20 minutes so it didn't break the bank!!

Pretty sure there is a guide on here somewhere. I found one online but be careful for non uk guides as the dv is drivers side which of course would be passenger in US and Europe :)

Apart from that long handled or small tools are helpful due to not much space under car (assuming you have a k03 standard gti engine) not hard just fiddly :happy2:

This is the rough guide for the ED30...

You can skip the first 3 pictures, and just locate the DV on the turbo.

In my personal experience it is a total pain to replace purely because of its location. Once you are in you also have very little space in which to work. If you do do it make sure you have good tools, and make sure when you are removing and replacing the bolts you have very good purchase on them. The allen bit should be fully into the bolt or you will, like I did, wear the bolt down. When I (or I should say Matt) replaced mine there wasn't even anything visibly wrong with it.

When I done mine (k03) I jacked up the drivers side, wheel off, arch liner out, changed the dv, cleared out behind the arch liner of the crap that built up and put it all back together, only took half hour.

Only took the front part of the arch liner off.

Removing the arch liner still doesn't make it really easy to access, it's still a PITA.

Very true, I done most of it blind and you can't even get a quarter turn on the ratchet (think thats the same any way you do it)
