Sat nav code from vw won't work in MFD2

 I popped into Vw this morning as my battery was unplugged so needed to obtain the unlock code for my MFD2, the technician scanned it and gave me the code along with a few other numbers which I presume to be the serial number of the nav unit etc, Now I entered the code and still doesn't work, what would be the reason for this??  the mfd2 was retro-fiited of a year ago if that makes any difference.

Any advice would be appreciated as none of the above makes any sense to me and I'm desperate to get everything working again.

All sorted, the code was changed from the factory code but luckily found it on top of the nav unit.
