Great engine, fun to drive, economical, super reliable and very tunable.  Also look at the 335d

Both are great as standard and a good map improves economy and drivability massively. Go for an auto.

Why an Auto?

... economical....

Are they though, Dave?

Stats suggest the Auto gives similar fuel economy to that of the MK5 GTI and I don't consider mine to be economical as such
I think majority of stats reckon it'll do 38MPG on the combined cycle, which I'd struggle to better in reality with mixed driving.

I have a 2010 E92 330d ... 6 to 60 and 15 to 100 according to Autocar.  Having come from an Edition 30 and a Z4M I reckon those figures are about right.

I have had mine 9 months and love it.  Auto, quick and handles ... Extremely well made and full of toys

Economy wise is does far better than my Ed30 did and so it should !   I used to get an average of 28 out of my Ed30 for the routes I do ... and I get 39 from the 330d on the same journeys .... The highest I had from my Ed30 was 34mpg - and I was impressed with that given the performance on offer (by then it was Bluefin remapped).  The highest I have had over a 200 mile A road and motorway journey in the 330d was 54mpg !!

Basically in solely stop start town traffic I get about 35mpg ... and on a run just under 50mpg ... and I love it - the noise ain't too bad for a diesel neither

It is ... though you can get the new engine from sometime 2008 onwards ... as in you don't have to have the 2010 facelift - the engine was put in earlier I believe on the E90 ?

Sadly not any of note .. but FWIW it looks great   It's a black coupe with cream leather ... and 19" 313M Alloys - which look great but attract kerbs  :ashamed:

40mpg combined is reasonable, can see another 3-5mpg with a good map. My 330d would get 48-52mpg on a run and 34-35 when used for short trips.

Hi, I went from a 55 plate GTI to a 2009 (59) plate E92, 330D with loads of toys.

I am amazed by the cars pull and the the way it handles the road.

Upsides
Good mpg (echo the above)
550 miles to a tank!
quiet/ refined
interior quality
handling
great engine
auto box superb

downsides
The sat nav I got is now out of date (its the professional in dash version) BM want a staggering £360 to bring it up to date.
There are a number of 19" wheels cracking on pot holes, hassles with BMW
There are a few of the headlight washer caps coming off. BM try to blame the concentration in the wash fluid...i think it a design flaw personally.
I have fitted 4 winter 18"s wheels and tyres due to the crap handling in the snow of teh rear wheel drive. But, so far these have done the trick nicely.

I presume you have the slightly older 223 alloys ... a bloke I work with had three replaced by BMW ... seems to be a poor design.  I have the newer 313M 19" wheels which seem O\k for cracking but stick out beyond the tyre - or certainly level with it and the result is any even slight error is greeted with a kerbed alloy !

As for the windscreen washer fluid - I have heard re this and have been topping up with almost neat -50 fluid as that is cheaper than BMW squirming out of a warranty claim for the headlamp washer cover.

eeek sorry dont know what is on the car they are 19" oem (of course) I thought 225 but unlike the dub I am not really up on option codes and the like....I havent had ANY issues so far with anything (other than the sat nav update grr). I was merely extending some of my limited knowledge to the OP so he can look into each issue further and be more informed.  :happy2:

And yes at £3 per litre I just pour concentrate into the resevoir really and top up with a little water. Like on the GTI i only EVER use approved stuff.
