Another Mk5 with rusty arches, with a twist
« on: December 20, 2011, 04:11:07 pm »
Been to see my local VW dealership this morning about possible warranty claim for a rusty wheel arch. Within 20 seconds of seeing the car the body shop manager says 'we cant touch it unless its been painted/already fixed?' So after some explaining, finger and palm rubbing over the car, it turns out that both rear quarters have been re-sprayed in its life-time at some point, and one side is now rusting, AND the rear door panel is out of alignment...still. :scared: Was NOT informed of any work carrried out on the car before we purchased the car, if we had been told maybe we would have never bought the car or never taken out extras on the bodywork.  :stupid: Called the dealership from where we purchased the car this morning and still waiting for a return call....

...i wait in anticipation  :popcornsoda:

EDIT-Managed to find the relevant email and pinged an email off and called back within 20 minutes...next weds we shall see.

Well, took the car in last Weds. Sales manager had a look and said all we can do is get our bodyshop people to look at it. Wasnt until Friday, two days later, I called VW for an update. They confirmed that the car had been painted previously AND that they were willing to fix the rusty arch under warranty. Good news so far. Car being collected on Thusday. What its going to be like is another matter.

Can anyone recommend any tips on how to tell if its a job well done?? My local VW dealers bodyshop guy said they would respray the whole side again with clear coat, I guess to give that even look.

TIA.

Well, finally got the car back today. It looks ok, but suspect it has only been done cosmetically, sanded down painted etc, but im no expert to tell. The sales manager who I was delaing with is a very busy man, so busy in fact he wasnt able to come out and explain properly what exactly had been done. Got half way home and filled up with some fuel and looked over the area again. There were some small chips all the way down the corner of the door where it had clearly been opened onto something and chiped the paint work. Turned around and went back. When I poined this out he said" it clearly wasnt done by our technicans as they would have corrected it."  :stupid: "Since it was so small the correction would not have noticed."  :stupid: .."and since it is a used car, 4 years old blah blah blah you'll notice more chips once you start looking for them...."

....words escape me to be honest and shall be writing a strong worded email.

Thats the biggest fear putting your car into a garage to be worked on. SOME guys don't care about your car, you could spend hours of your life making your car perfect then someone opens your door against a wall  :angry015:

I hear what your saying  :sad1:
Whats even more annoying now is ive noticed the cover of one of the parking sensors has been pulled off!  Are these easy to get hold of??? I suspect the vw valeter was whizzing round with his hover and dragged the hose round the door and bumper. It had been hovered inside, back front and boot and was still filthy outside when I picked it up  :ashamed: To top it all the exhaust warning light came on today. Now im back on days, i might not be able to get to the stealers till next week end. Hopefully they can pick it in the week. They say these things come in threes...ive never had much luck with cars to date. This time last year my bora had to have four new tyres, new discs and pads and power steering hose. Over a period of 2 months it cost me nearly 800 green queens.

So, possible contaminated fuel could be the culprit(low pressure fuel list?). VW going to keep the car to strip whatever it is down. Will ask to see a sample of contaminant! Whats more annoying, the stealers where i bought the car from, hadnt checked the cambelt, like we asked them, and looks likely a new cambelt is due...possibly 4 new tyres, on 3mm all round, rear wash wiper stopped working today as well...

if it's a VW main dealer call the dealership and tell them you'll be speaking to VW UK, explain all this and then tell them you want a refund on your money immediately or you'll be taking the dealership in question to court over the matter.

that's what i do. they make far too much money to scam us, and considering you buy from a main dealer for peace of mind this is completely unacceptable.
