Eddy is basically a GTI with marginally worse handling (due to something VW did to the spring and damping setings) but a bigger turbo.

Handling can easily be sorted with a set of springs. Having the K04 from the factory is priceless :happy2:

Worth the premium all day long if a Mk5 is what you're after

:signLOL: don't know much about cars do you  :signLOL: everything other than the engine, seats, bumpers and wheels is the same as a normal Gti

What he said...........

Oh and yes the ED30 is worth the premium over the GTI as the engine has a bigger/better turbo and more desirable standard specification.  :happy2:

Wait and get an ED30 my friend. Not only does it have a better standard spec with all the colour coding/seats/wheels etc, but you get far more bang for your buck when you come to mod it!  :happy2:

@ sub39h is the handling really worse? The GTI to me felt amazing Im still amazed and only now can do I understand why all my fave car mags and shows where in love with the GTI.  Is the ed30 really that different to drive to standard GTI.  What sort of springs would I have to get would they be just springs or full on coilovers?  Also I hear the k03 is a detuned engine is that what makes it so priceless?

@ Nodz.  Thank you think I'll have to let head rule over my heart. :sad1:  Thanks for the link as well.  Ill save that.

@ leslanos I did check the website.  I knew where to find the date, myself, my friend and the dealer all agreed that the date taken was the correct one to use.....we the confirmed this on the website.  I definitely haven't made I mistake on this as it isn't my first time of doing this.  I tried every date on the form to be 100% certain.  Thanks for concern

@ bacillus I couldn't agree more.  Too many things.  I mean he was trying to rush me and my friend.  He told us we only had 15mins on arrival to buy the car.  Later he had another hour as his "flight" wasn't till an hour later than he thought!

@ QD I'll have to wait till tuesday till ring HPI company.  On speaking to friends they agreed that the HPI company can be slow.  Time will tell.  I really am curious to know.

@ MAT ED30 so there are no suspension differences between the ed30 and GTi?

@ E30DOM looking like I'll walk away to many things are just not right...what personally out of interest makes an ED30 more waiting for?

@ Greeners what in the specification makes the ed30 more desirable over a GTI?  I heard the ed30 has more lag is this true?

@WhiteGTI my friend  :happy2: must say when you put it that way almost seems like a no bailer to get ed30.

@ SteveP Im now confused so your saying ed30 has suspension as good as standard GTI? Or that the ed30 isn't worth the premium?

Thanks for all the comments! I'll keep you posted!  I think its safe to sat that the general consensus is walk away and get an Eddy.

The basic differences between GTI come down to cosmetic (eg body coloured skirt), interior (half leather, heated seats, red trim) and engine. Everything else is the same, including brakes and suspension.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Also with HPI's, never trust anyone elses HPI check/printout.

I went to look at a car once, the data on hpi was 2 days prior to me viewing, but the paper it was printed on looked like at had been kicked round the garden for a few weeks.

Having looked round the car & something not seeming right, did my own HPI.

None of the car details matched up on HPI database. Walked away. 1 week later phone call from HPI telling me it was a ringer  :surprised:

No probs, hope you can find a decent GTI/Ed30 as it seems this seller is hiding something especially with his short viewing time and not being truthful about stuff.

Part of me wishes I never bought the 1st GTI I looked at but it is the 1st car So learnt quite a few lessons from that, but saying that the car hasn't missed a beat since owning it.

But as I said good luck with your search and hope you get a decent motor

@mat ED30.  Thank you.  A post said they're different.

@stealthwolf.  You've doubly confirmed what I suspected.

@perky85 now that really is quite scary.  Such things make me very weary of dealers.  I will forever always perform my own HPI report via the website and never allow myself be rushed....

Edition 30 all the way, i looked at several Gti's and it was just blind luck i saw an Eddy come up 15 miles away from where i live and with low miles. This car when tweeked correctly is fantastic, if you can get one which is highly spec'd from factory all the better.
Mine had following extras
RNS510
MFSW
Highline
Lux Pack
Arm rest
Factory Tints
Phone prep
......only thing i wouldve liked which mine didnt have was Xenons but hey.
Manual or DSG it doesnt matter they both are great, ive driven both and wouldnt turn my nose up at either, you will pay more typically for a DSG and more for a 5 door.

Any car which doesnt sit right with you from the start is a no goer, just tell them to poke it! ive worked in and around the motor trade for nearly 20 years of my life, so have a very sharp eye when it comes to stinkers but always take care and listen to what your instincts tell you, remember its your money so never feel pressured and take your time.

I would suggest that if you're unsure if it's an honest car then be wary. If you're unsure if the dealer is honest, walk away. An honest dealer will sort out problems with any car, but a dodgy dealer will do what's needed to sell.

Your dealer sounds dodgy as hell.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.
