Mate, when i seen your thread title I was thinking it was going to have 100 000+, at 68000 you have nothing to worry about, make sure it's got a full service history and you thoroughly check it out and you will have no worries.

I still got my old mk4 parked in the garage it's got 175000 on it and still runs very well, but it is a diesel lol

Its more of how its been looked after. I got my GTI with 72k on clocks, just gone stage 2 at 74k. Nick at r tech said one of the best his had in.
Whats age of car as 12k per year is average i think.

Mileage unless ridiculously high is largely irrelevant imo, it's a hang up that a lot of people myself included suffer from for some reason, condition and history is the important factor when buying
My Ed30 is rapidly approaching 60k and honestly runs better than when I bought it on 4k, my cousin bought his on 52k and sold it to a member on here and it's still going strong, 68k is just nicely run in  :happy2:

I should probably listen to what im about to type, but miles have always been a hold up for me  :signLOL:

Service History is key, my friend has just taken an early '54' mk5 GTI from his brother with 86k on clock, its first owner used to travel from germany to UK every few months. The car is as tight as a nut, great condition, FVWSH.

The cost of higher miles is all relative when it comes to buying and selling later on. Purely depends if you want lower, how long you plan to keep it.

I know what you mean Dan, 68k 'feels' high but in the real world, it's really not compared with a lot of 3/4/5 year old cars. The servicing is the key here.

I bought my GTI just as it turned 3 years old (on a 2006 zero six plate) and it had higher than I wanted mileage @ 54,000 with one owner up in Wigan, but it was from a Volkswagen main dealer and a years warranty and three year gap insurance was thrown in the price. It more importantly also had a full long life VWSH which made it feel a lot less miles in terms of what may go wrong from wear and tear. I made sure as soon as I got it I put it on my own time/distance servicing schedule, for example the oil had only been changed twice in 54k miles  :scared: This is very common on the VW longlife servicing plan as you may know.

Two and a half years later I'm on 91,000 miles, the only thing that actually needed replacing outside of service scheduling was the air con compressor which you'll probably have seen is a favourite failure on the MK5. Despite being two weeks out of used car warranty, it was replaced by my nearest Porsche/VW specialist for just under £100 (I bought the compressor myself).

Apart from that it's been mechanically sound and drives as smoothly as when I bought it  I'd like to think I've looked after it and like anything if I hadn't, I'd have expected issues whether it had 54,000 miles or 4,000 miles  :happy2:

I actually prefer to buy high mileage cars as they tend to be cheaper and as long as they are looked after its not an issue, it also heps that I only do around 4000 per year in mine, so over 4-5 years it ends up being a Low-Average mileage car when i come to sell  :innocent:.

I bought my MK4 at 3.5 years old with 60K FVWSH and Bought my ED30 at 3.5years old with 39K FVWSH, as long as its serviced and run regularly it should be fine.

Also motorway miles do less damage to engines than short journeys, so factor that in

My GTI was an ex company car before I bought it.  It had 81K on the clock, mostly motorway miles and a full VW service history.  Its now on 95K and I have had no problems at all with it except rust on the arches but VW sorted that under warranty.

She is about to go stage 2, feels like its just about bedded in now  :driver:
