Osram sidelight bulbs?
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:02:33 pm »
Hi guys,

have seen several threads recently on bulbs and various e bay links but do Osram themselves actually do any sidelight bulbs to complement the Nightbreaker plus and if so does anyone have part number/link?

Have been on a couple of sites but cant see them at mo...

Thanks.

Would like to know this too. I have Night Breaker Plus's waiting to go on. Sidelights to match would be a bonus.

looks like might need to call one of the bulb specialists unless some wise old sage on here can still (pardon the pun) enlighten us?  :innocent:

Old sage, though not wise, answers:

I've got the Osram and Philips 5W5 bulbs in front of me.

The Osram ones will give a yellow light. Product code: 2825-02B

The Philips ones will provide a very white light as they have a blue coating on the glass surface. They are the BlueVision Ultra 5W5 bulbs, cost £9.95 from Power Bulbs, Product Code: 12961BV

I bought the Philips BlueVision Ultra W5W bulbs from ebay last night, about £4.40 delivered
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.

That's brilliant value at less than half price.

I was going to install these, but am not too happy with the look of a blue bulb in my headlight.

Please tell me  how they look when on and off. Are they a very blue/white beam or just white light? Thanks.

I have the non-Ultra ones in my mk5, they are blue coated which you see in daylight but the light output is white, not blue tinted.

Will let you know how they compare as it's for my wife's Altea, where the sidelights are very dim and yellowed.

Yes, my sidelights are yellow like egg yolks. I might take the plunge and install the Philips. Hope they are not too white in comparison to my Philips Xtreme Vision H7 bulbs. Hate changing bulbs.

I have the Philips Xtreme bulbs and they are a very good match - hence why you often see these sidelights bundled in with the H7's  :happy2:

I purchased eBay item 170693232653 if you want a look, they haven't come but I know the non-ultra version is not blue tinted, they are £3.99 somewhere on eBay.

Thanks skard. You've convinced me to fit them. Has to be tomorrow as it's very stormy in London town.

My car was covered with A4 paper from someone's note book. Was a funny sight. I wonder if any dangerous objects have hit it? Knowing my rotten luck, I might be in luck!

Installed my new Philips Blue Vision Ultra 5W5 side light bulbs by the dealer and FOC. Too lazy to do it myself.
These are now as white as my Philips Xtreme Vision H7 bulbs.
If  only I could find whiter DRLs.
Help?

Glad you're happy with them (now I don't have egg on my face too!).

My set just arrived this morning, so I'll be out in the dark putting them in her Altea. Or should I put them in my Golf and give her the year old non-ultra ones??
