maintence on my mk5 gti
« on: January 07, 2012, 08:34:09 pm »
well I have alot to do to my car..
and a few problems with it also!

the easy ones first!

my car doesn't feel as smooth as it used to? like a small hint of drag?
my car was in at VW and they did a visual inspection saying my front brake discs are lipped, and my front tyre thread is nearly on there way out! which is true
do you think that could be causing the problem?

I bought cam follower and seal from the stealers and when I have time will replace my current one on my 66k mileage gti.. maybe this is the cause?

also..moving off in first gear it feels like judder mostly when moving off uphill, and when going into second its also a little jerky ! mostly 95% of the same.. but when I shift after 3-4k in first sometimes it goes nice n smooth

recently when going into fith and releasing the clutch it jerks hard.. no idea why.. it didn't used to do it.. most people said replace the clutch fluid as it may be air .. can anyone else shed any light? thanks

also I have looked everywhere..
where can I buy some good front brake discs and pads from? any idea how much VW charge?
and how much should I expect to pay supplied and fitted for both? thanksss!

THINGS I NEED TO DO ASAP
cambelt/waterpump
2 front tyres
2 front brake discs with pads

THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO
change clutch/brake fluid
change cam follower/seal
bsh engine mounts

I'd get your discs and pads from TPS if you want to use OEM parts. They have one at my local VW dealer but not sure all VW branches do.

Fit them yourself I save a fortune on stealer prices. It really is an easy job and there on plenty of guides on how to do it.

In your post you say you have bought a cam follower, what is this?

oh it's a cam follower, it causes alot of problems with the mk5 gti if it is too worn out
http://myfastgti.com/volkswagen/threads/12734-DIY-HPFP-Removal-and-Cam-Follower-Replacement
costs around £40 from the stealers.. the cam follower is like £31.. they charge you £9 for the smallest rubber seal..

and this might happen if you don't change it
