Conti Sport Contact 5 or Eagle F1 Asymetric 2
« on: January 15, 2012, 11:09:56 pm »
Just about to order some tires.

I wanted Federal 594RS-R tires but they are out of stock pretty everywhere.  Cant see me getting any more trackdays in before the end of the year now due to work commitments being manic.

So im thinking these 2:

Conti Sport Contact 5

or Eagle F1 Asymetric 2.

Both similar price, similar reviews etc etc

Which would you choose?

Goodyears have bags of grip but i'm wondering if the sidewalls are a bit soft. Either tyre will be good  :happy2:

Had both the previous types which were real good, Eagle F1's seemed to last a little longer.

I love the conts and usually either buy those or f1s but i have leaned more towards the contis recently due to the availability problems of the old f1 assymetrics, tbh those are my first choice tyres every time and have not tried any of the new offerings from conti or goodyear but no doubt both will be brilliant, id personally go for the cheapest even if there was only £1 in it !

Although just a thought since you do a few track days what about the mitch super sports they are meant to be absolutley superb and wear brilliant too, ( fair enough a little expensive )
When i change it will be between the above 3 !

Well impressed with the Conti Sport contact 5's so far and I like them as they look good too with the patterns on the sidewalls etc...

I know someone that has RS-Rs in stock!

Failing that, I've had my Asym 2s on the Ring, Spa and Rockingham - they seem pretty damn good for road boots.

Oh, BTW I had Conti 5s on the clutter - they're also very good, although Evo had chunks coming off them when they battered their long termer at Bedford. Maybe not a good road come track tyre??

Cheers TD, thats a great find.  They have lots in stock, plus i hear those silverstone tires are pretty good as well.

I was going to order the road tires now as he cold weather wont effect them, but since they RS-R is pretty much a semi slick, ill order it once were out of this cold snap.  cars no getting driven much anyway.

No worries.

If you speak to Nick (and I suggest you do, he's a great chap) he'll tell you the FZ201 are better than the Silverstones. Seems a few people who've tried them agree.

RS-Rs I've used on a greasy Ring (fnaaar!) on one of the Swift rentals, they were superb for what they are. Beddie has them too on his Golf, again he rates highly and you get loads of tread/wear out of them. Deffo a realistic road and track tyre  :happy2:

Ill stick with the 595RS-R for this tire change i think.  Its not getting used mych on track for the next few months, i just havent got the time.

Next year though, it'll get something abit better stuck on there, so i might have a look into them  :happy2:

Not available in my tyre size, plus they are mega bucks as well.  The federals will give neigh on the same performance but at a fraction of the cost
