I have the huge fin/ bee sting arial combination at the moment.  Sort of a mix of both and not pretty  :sick:  My car has OEM fitted RNS510 so this is a GPS reciever.  But newer VWs come with a gloss black shark fin that I want to fit assuming you get a GPS version...which I think you do as I've looked at cars in the showroon with nav and the gloss black fin.

id love a photo of that dan.

I have seen the combination ones, not a fan. they are pretty fugly!

i was going to buy the older style shark fin and colour code it, but ive read the reception can be shocking, with the OEM shark fin.

i nearly ordered if yesterday, glad i didnt now! this gloss black one sounds a lot nicer, and easier (no paint)

The new gloss black fins look just like the smaller original black plastic fins (but painted).  So exactly what you're after I think  :happy2:

I'm sure you will have seen the colour coded versions on Audis, so just imagine that in black, perfect!

As far as reception is concerned I used to have a MK5 R32 with nav which had the small shark fin and never had any problems with reception.  I'm hoping the gloss version will be fine too.

I haven't checked out the price with VW yet but don't imgine they will be too expensive.  Expect there might be two versions; GPS and non GPS.

ye, ive got RNS-510 too. but ive put my GPS receiver behind the rear view mirror. ill probably just leave it there and get the none GPS base.

cant be arsed moving the headlining to route a wire. I do alsorts with cars, but headlinings are one of my most hated topics!

ive done that before. its awful but im very anal about these things, so it took me hours! if i dropped a screw, or lost one, then thats my worst nightmare!

I'm thinking of doing this next myself...does the addition of a sun roof make removal of the linning even trickier? More wires, torq screws and plugs I guess. And what about the airbags...can you set these off by accident? Still looking to fit the aerial so more tricks of the trade greatly appreciated.

what was the reason vw started putting the aerials back on the roof...i was told it was to do with the american market  as they mianly use am
