low flying jet ?
« on: January 21, 2012, 09:05:18 pm »
Anyone in sunbury/staines area hear or see a low flying jet ?

Definitely military, very fast and extremely loud, I dashed out to see it but it was gone, hoping someone saw it and could tell what it was.

I must say its a bit unnerving, I mean they dont scramble them for nothing do they ?

Used to hear and see them reasonably often in the Scottish highlands, presumably on training exercises.  Unbelievably close to the floor sometimes.

The Typhoons are at RAF Northolt this weekend getting familiar with the area as they will be based there during the Olympics just in case they are needed

I see the Typhoons now and again over the wash practicing maneuvres, about a year back there was 3 of them all doing nose up pirouettes then into stall turns, it was noisy as hell but impressive to watch

They are seriously impressive, its amazing just how aggressively they can change direction. I wish i'd been outside when it went over, I stood outside for half an hour freezing my tadgers off in the hope of a return flight!

Compared to the F22-Raptor I think it gets a spanking.

The Typhoon is quite an old plane.
