Any detailers near Wigan, Warrington, Manchester, Bolton....?
« on: January 22, 2012, 10:53:22 pm »
Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any detailers in or around the Wigan, Bolton, Manchester or Warrington area? I'm always trying to keep my cars as clean as possible but washing them is fine, but getting a really good finish isn't the easiest for me so would prefer to pay someone professional to get it looking perfect for me instead.

Anyone with any knowledge on this? It'd be very much appreciated!

Karl

Does anyone have any rough idea of what they charge for each service?

Also whilst I don't know much about detailing then maybe someone can briefly explain what each type of detail means.

Cheers

Migliors website has the details of what each type of detail entails.

You're looking at £150-300 approx for an enhancement detail and £400+ for correction. These are ballpark figures and you're paying for labour essentially. Different people charge differing amounts. A start up detailer may charge less than a pro.

Thanks for that! :)

I don't know if it's just me but I can only seem to find out what is involved on the protection detail and the extra's. Everything else doesn't seem to tell you what it does exactly. I know if I use a bit of common sense then the correction detail would get scratches etc out and the enhancement detail would just basically be a very good polish all over the exterior... am I right? Surely there's more to it than that but that's just what common sense makes me think that.

I would ring up or email them but they're probably very busy so I thought I could ask people on here for info/help whilst we're surely not as busy and people might be able to answer the questions I had

Jay (Miglior) is a very active member of the forum (one of the first)

His company seems to be growing fast and he must get very busy though like you say, but you can always "pm" him  :happy2:

If I lived near Manchester, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car!  :notworthy:

I thought so but when I clicked on the link showing one of his previous pieces of work he mentioned he hadn't been on for around a month I thought so just thought it might be quicker and easier to just pop the question on here for a quick easy reply whilst majority of the members I've spoke to do far have been very knowledgable and helpful :) I'll go send him a PM later on when I get back home on my laptop. Cheers Monte!

Definitely go to Jay in that part of the country - consistently awesome work!!

To clear up the definitions, generally:

- Protection Detail would be a full decontamination of the paintwork (clay, fallout remover, tar remover), normally a paint cleanser and a protective product.  Little or no correction is involved here as the key is protecting the paintwork.

- Enhancement Detail - this is the biggest grey area as most people will quote that its effectively a 'gloss enhancing' detail, with a single stage machine correction.  Generally this service is completed in a single day booking.  The level of defect removal tends to depend on a number of factors, but generally is down to the hardness of the paint.  Very hard paints generally require a relatively aggressive combination of pad and polish to correct the paint, which in itself leaves it own marking and so another further refining stage (sometimes 2) is required to get the paint in a suitable condition.  Enhancement Details should involve the most effective single stage machine polish that removes as many defects as possible in a single stage, but also finishes down well to ensure you don't have any micro marring or holograms.

- Correction Detail is essentially the multi staged polishing process outlined above and generally lasts 2-3 days or so, again depending on paint hardness and size of vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Russ.

Thanks a LOT Russ, that's answered my question perfectly. At least I know I will probably only need enhancement details for a couple times before having anything major because Phil did a correction detail shortly before I bought it.

Cheers for that! :)
