Mine has been stage 1 for 55K without the DSG mapped, it's not a necessity imo

I would say no. It really needs to be accompanied by a full set of engine mounts.

DSG remap's only really for increased functionality. It won't change up or down for you at all, it'll let you smash into the rev limiter if you choose, and some say it makes the gearbox smoother.

If it was £200 I'd say give it a go - but it's around the £500 mark and for that it doesn't seem worth t

Do not buy superchips (Bluefin)!!! Learn from my experience.... I purchased my edition 30 DSG on the 5th Jan this year and then installed the remap on the 6th Jan. The car felt considerably faster but boost was erratic and it would stutter between 2750 and 3000rpm. I did not go directly back to Superchips as I wanted to know the car was in good health. I had my local VAG specialist look at the car and after a number of hours declared the car healthy. I then emailed Superchips and they replied that they had seen this before and sent me a new map to try, no other explanation was provided. I installed the new map and the car now drives very well. I then emailed Superchips for an explanation and they replied back with "You had been provided a file suitable for manual as opposed to the DSG transmission, but I have also reduced the fuel rail pressure which is the critical part" I find this very disappointing as I selected DSG on the initial order form and again when downloading the initial map. Also as they had had problems with fuel pressure before why run the fuel pressure so close to the limit. My local VAG specialist stripped the fuel pump and checked the fuel pressure, so I know it was all working as it should. If you search the forums, Superchips have sent incorrect maps out before! So beware. I feel better for that rant!

Most probably I would be going to either jkm or r-tech for the remap....only thinking of doing the engine mapping but not the dsg map

Seems you've just been very unlucky as everyone I know who's used Superchips is nothing but happy at the result. I have it on my MK6 and it's superb.  It's not mental it's just superb.
