valeo led - blown bulb?
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:16:41 pm »
2 of the Led's for my indicators have blown by the looks of things, the tail light works fine but when the indicators go there are 2 out. Has anyone had this before and is it an easy fix?

No easy way to replace a failed LED apart from dismantling the light unit, desoldering the original LEDs and replacing with the right LEDs...

I have exactly the same thing! I managed to temporarily "fix" mine by taking it off the car and fully drying the inner out. I cleaned up the electrical contacts with some sandpaper and ACF50 and it worked. I suspect water is getting in from the seal around the light that meets the bodywork.

I only get this in very cold weather by the way. :rolleye:

Did you have any luck? Another thought is to put some silica gel in the lens.....

Noticed 2 on mine didn't flash orange when locking the car tonight. Unlocked and locked it lots of times and basically sometimes they flashed, other times they didn't. Quite a few times they did flash but missed the start of the flash by a tiny amount. Bit annoying but probably a damp issue, they are next to each other towards the bottom on the passenger side.

I have seen this happening on Mk5 Jettas recently to, Possibly a dry joint problem, Should be a easy fix if it is.

As above, you will just need a very fine tip soldering iron and some solder, 2 minute job once you can get to the circuit board.

Warmer weather? sounds like condensation getting on the circuit and shorting the LED's
