MK7 GTi - Autocar
« on: February 10, 2012, 06:18:14 pm »
Just read the latest in Autocar - I hope they're right!

The new GTi will be:

As light as a MK4, but much safer

260 bhp 2.0 turbo four

New VAQ electrically controlled front diff for much "more agile steering behaviour"

GTD will be 181 bhp TD or 220 bhp biturbo!

Better get saving then! Give the MK6 a miss!

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

I'm very well informed that it won't be independent rear suspension like the mk5 / mk6,
guess we'll have to wait and see if it is or not though  :popcornsoda:

I thought that independent rear suspension was a good thing

It is, but it also costs a lot. Losing it would definitely be a bad thing.

I've read somewhere that the non sporty versions of the next gen Golf won't have fully independent rear suspension like all the current mk5/mk6's have but it won't be as agricultural as the mk4 was.

'Sporty' models will still have fully independent rear suspension and apparently the mk7 GTI will have an aluminium roof and bonnet to reduce weight.  According to t'internet anyway  :popcornsoda:

It was the Top Gear story on the MQB platform.

French clutter doesn't rock multilink rear suspension, that gets by ok....

They need the FRS/Clutter fancy front set up, balls to the rear, that just follows you about.
Sideways yo!

Yeah but the way the prices are going, it wil be £32k for basic model

The MQB platform allows the production costs to be 30 per cent lower, and development 20% lower. So if they keep the prices at today's levels, they will make a huge profit increase.

If they push prices up above what is inflationary, that'll be pure greed, and I'll leave the brand, and I'm sure a lot of others would as well.

Article on the Autocar website says the 227bhp version will get bigger brakes than the lower powered car and a comment from someone who seems to have read up on the subject suggests it will get a mechanical LSD, too.

Perish the thought that a car with more power gets bigger brakes.  :surprised:  :scared:

If they think that 10ps extra warrants an LSD and bigger brakes, why the hell has the standard one gone without? :stupid:
Unless of course, it's a bigger turbo, then a quick map would make good use of the extra bits
