Had service today at VW. Should I complain they used wrong oil grade?

Just got home to see they have used Castrol GTX 10w 40 rather than Edge 5w 30

Will this have any detrimental affects in the long run, or shall I not worry about it?

The Ed30 lump needs to be run on longlife oil.

Castrol GTX 10w 40 is the cheapest of the cheap (£5 for 5 litres to trade) semi synthetic oil available.

Ask for an oil change to the oil of your choice along with a new filter, flush and some money off for the inconvenience or next service 1/2 price.

I'm normally all set at service time to make sure everything is all 100% (expecting the worst), but they blind sided me this morning with their door man/concierge who greeted me by name on arrival and introduced me to my service supervisor for the day LOL

Wish I had just gone with my instinct now and gone to Votex rather than worry about stupid VW stamp in the book for resale..

I'd personally prefer to see a decent VAG specialist stamps in the service book than VW dealership. Thats why my Polo GTI will not be re-visiting the dealership except for warranty claims.

I totally agree. Was going to maybe sell this spring though so thought i would keep with VW to appeal to masses. Wrongly or rightly when service reads VW VW VW VW Independent you think last owner was doing stuff on cheap.

Why can nobody do anything right. Everything was brilliant up until the bit where they changed the oil on my minor oil service...... Should have guessed what I was really dealing with when I saw that someone had taken time to go through my hard drive to find their favourite Beastie Boys song for the test drive......

I would also point this out to the service manager when you go in to complain, as i find that totally unacceptable.

When i went back to Barnsley VW, a service guy took a mk5 GTI out screaming up the road, then when he came back, he started laughing with his mates going through the music on the stereo. So loud i could hear it from the other side of the car park.

Doesn't really have to be run on longlife oil.  The dealer will use 5w30 longlife if the car is on variable servicing and 5w40 if its on fixed.

It's much better to change the oil every 10k and there is no issue with running the 5w40.

However, the dealer should not be using 10w40.

Imo the 5w30 is too thin for a tuned turbo engine and will run too hot and then too thin.

went to vw for a service today and i must say, reading ur story think all dealers are the same.Collected my car  at 2 oclock  this afternoon  to find my chair cocked right back as if some1 had actually been having a snooze in there, or trying to drive gangsta style while out thrashing my motor with my heated leathers  turned up to maximum mark.Got told on a few advisors to which i quickly told them would get sorted myself after telling me they charge 50 quid to change two front window wipers and 270 quid for rear brake pads lmao. AT LEAST DICK TURPIN WORE A MASK AY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
