Key programming help - Seat Altea
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:02:48 pm »
Wondering if anyone can assist, as I'm losing the head trying to program a virgin transponder to our Altea. The seller has even sent me a second chip to ensure the first isn't dodgy. The Altea is electrically very similar to the mk5.

Basically, I have one full RCL key and although the car came with a non-RCL key - I broke the capsule chip trying to remove it. Thus I one have one engine starting key now.

It's an 03/2007 car. I have extracted the SKC through Commander and this lets me log into adaptation. Even using the key matching on that software doesn't work.
I am following the Ross-Tech key matching process (or at least I think I am) but the immo just doesn't seem to go into an adaptation mode (the key diagram never shows on cluster).

Thinking our Altea has the newer immo system(like a Golf with xx3/xx4 clusters) , this should not matter as I have the SKC?

Was wondering if there's anything I'm missing - such as ignition having to be on for X amount of time beforehand?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here is a screenshot within 25-Immo, measuring blocks when using a key with a virgin chip...

I take it the Megamos transponder is the right type (key status ok - yes)?

What about Immo (LED) status down bottom right...I notice when I go into adaptation and 000 to clear all keys, this does a countdown every minute. It also shows Safe5 on the cluster display. Does that have any significance? I've waited on it going down to 0 but still doesn't want to adapt.

Like I mentioned, the car has pretty much all Golf mk5 modules in it so anyone who's programmed their own key with a SKC - your input is appreciated.

Because I have the SKC it should be possible (as I can access the immobiliser with it), there must be a step I'm doing wrong, or the guy has sent me two wrong transponders...

have a look at one of the control modules in the car

ddress 17: Instruments        Labels: 1K0-920-xxx-17.lbl
   Part No: 1K0 920 962 G
   Component: KOMBIINSTRUMENT VDD 4312
   Coding: 0003403
   Shop #: WSC 01215 210 75981
   VCID: 2F691568C78D

No fault code found.

The  01215 is the workshop code 210 is the importer number and  75981 is the job number

If you start vag-com on the interface tab there is an option to enter / set a workshop code

Just tried that, got further, but when I put the amount of new keys, at either 2 or 3, the display shows 1-2, or 1-3 and then shows SAFE once moving on from the original key.

Has it got something to do with these chips needing to be pre-coded?

Thanks Ed that was the missing link in the procedure, I can remove/reinstate my original key, but the new chips just won't take being written to, so it seems.

Is it possible by trying to adapt it while not using the WSC that I could have written false data to it?

However, in measuring blocks it still shows Transponder Lock - NO so I may have just answered my own question!
