As the title says really...

Car has had Castrol Edge for the first 2 services but then dealer swapped to Quantum.
Last visit they are now using Shell. Not that it matters really, as I won't be using the stealer this time!

After long deliberation I have decided to go with a local VAG specialist.
He told me that he uses Quantum, but if I want to supply my own oil that would be fine!

So I have read that Fuchs have a great rep for making high end oils.

I saw Oilmans offer on the forum marketplace and wondered if anyone else has opted for the Fuchs Titan Race Pro S?
Also without sounding silly.... Would it be better to keep it running on the Castrol/Quantum oils??? (same stuff, I've read...but not sure)

Here is the Oilmans link...
(do we get a forum discount on top of this price?)

EDIT: Also what DSG oil should we be using and how much of it? Just wondered if it would be better to buy this at the same time as engine oil, or let the Indy supply this?

Thanks,

Carlo.

Whatever way you choose, don't forget you also need a filter for the dsg oil change...
Without traction power is nothing!

Im sure the spark plugs dont need changing until 60k (unless of course, you have reached 60k)?
I would use the Castrol Edge over the Quantum stuff - you can get it cheap enough from Asda.
Is it due a brake fluid change?

Perhaps take this opportunity to fit an ECS magnetic sump plug purposeful in helping to look after your engine and fairly inexpensive  :happy2:

What Indy you use Carlo?

Thats quite expensive for 5Lt of quantum long life 3 - they are making a tidy sum on that!!

20L is only £67 from TPS direct...

As for DSG oil, only use VW OEM oil

TPS is the best bet for getting all the parts to be fair! You'll save a bomb

As above TPS is cheap for oil especially if you can get trade.

But the Fuchs Titan Race Pro is good stuff, used it in my old RS. Was going to put it in the golf but ended up getting the proper VW stuff for under £20 from TPS.

It's also worth bearing in mind what you'll use to top up.

I work for a large Oil manufacturer and one of our key points of advice to customers is never to mix different brands of Synthetic oils.  Mixing of oils with a Mineral base stock is generally considered to be OK but most definitely not Synthetic.

I'm lead to believe that the Quantum oil is in fact a Castrol product which is branded for VW (it may have a different additive package to other Castrol products). Sometimes if you see a drum of it you'll see the makers label on the drum with the blending details and batch number.

If you look at a product data sheet for Quantum then you'll see the helpline is in Swindon, have a look who else makes oil and has offices and a technical helpline in Swindon

Quantum Longlife is branded BP (at least the last 10 barrels I've bought have been)

Their semi synth offerings are branded Castrol  :happy2:

EDIT: But yes, BP own castrol so its all the same.

Can you walk in off the street and buy things from TPS or do you need an account?

Some TPS's will let you walk in, others will require a trade purchase order

Worth just giving them a call  :happy2:
