« on: February 15, 2012, 08:53:10 pm »
Hello I'm new to the club. I'm looking to get a gti in the next couple of months and thought i would join a forum to get some advice on what i need to look at when viewing a car. I currently have a impreza and my gf has a 206 and want to see what the germans can offer :) looking to spend around 7000 around may time.
 Thanks :) Ben

Hello Ben welcome to the site, have a look around and see what sort of spec you want as most parts are retrofittable its better to get them from the off, xenons are a good idea imho

7k will get you a decent 55 or 06 plate with 60-80k, FVWSH. All the buying guides advise to go for manual at this budget, and I'd go Interlagos cloth for the full GTi experience.

18" Monza'a are a must, but make sure thee rims are not kerbed, and the tyres have a rim protector edge, as it's so easy to kerb these. If your Mrs is going to drive it, maybe get the 17" monzas, as they are not diamond cut finished, and a lot cheaper to repair.

Also check to see if cam follower has been changed, Cambelt and waterpump at 60K / 4 yrs.

Good luck and welcome to the site!
