I love all this "Gear change is quicker"...So what if it is !!! what exactly is the difference between Man and DSG over 0-62 ??? Probably nigh on nothing.(Well certainly not enough to worry about)

Seems we have far too many wannabe racing drivers on here.....

Bottom line is you have what makes you happy,

one is not better than the other it's just a question of what float's your boat.... :happy2:

Well on the Golf R (as tested by Autocar) its between 0.7 sec to 1.0 second (Best start and worst start for manual against DSG), which in accelleration times is a huge difference!!  :P

Your right tho, quicker away from lights aside and quicker in a straight line does not mean your quicker overall.  :happy2:

Picked up DSG Eddy today and I'm really enjoying it so far.

I love the different way you can go about playing with changing gears on the car.

I think my favourite so far is simply driving along in D mode then dropping a couple of cogs via the paddle shifter you're off!

S mode is really good for flying starts too  :happy2:

S mode is mental  :happy2:

Turn off the ESP and see the difference that makes too  :happy2:

Besides the quicker shifts, one of the main reasons I went DSG was because of traffic and no clutch replacement going stage 2+  :booty:

Lol that's an odd statement coming from someone with a remapped performance car - clearly you did that to drive faster?

Or should we all sell up and buy bluemotions?

Also the quoted 0-62 times are with a professional driver, whereas anyone from the Stig to me can get in a DSG and get the most out of it.

with the DSG can you use the gear lever to change, (by nudging it forward or back)

Yes I am aware of this thanks. Still not the same as changing gear in a manual is it? Still no clutch and it's a very sterile push forward or back!

i think that was a question rather than a statement - and yes you can  :happy2:

yeah i was asking if ya can, glad ya picked up it was a question cos i forgot to put the question mark lol

Yes ofcourse i had the car mapped to make it faster but when i was in the process of buying the car in the first place(standard) i bought it with manual box as that's what i like to drive.

What im saying is that i wasnt bothered that DSG is quicker by a fraction of a second at all as i get a massive grin on my face by having a shifter in my hand as opposed to having a couple of paddles..

By no way am i having a dig at anyone,,,like i said before it's a personal touch to each individual..

Not sure of what you mean by the Bluemotion comment, however there is no winner or loser in this 7yr old topic, just go out there and enjoy your driving.

As has been said, its just what you personally prefer...

My ED30 is a DSG and i set out to buy a DSG car, i think they are so so good once you know how to use it properly. Through some twisties the progress you can make is awesome, just effortless and so capable.

Everyone who goes in it that hasn't experienced DSG are amazed, at first they are like "Oh its just an auto..." But after going in it they normally come away wanting one.

Saying that, i still proper love manual!

Horses for courses, drive both and see what YOU prefer.

all i mean is that you can't on the one had say "who cares DSG is faster" and then make steps towards making your own car faster. if you want a faster car, DSG is faster. if you don't care about having a faster car, you don't need a remap and some would argue you don't need a GTI. hence we should just buy bluemotions instead.

ofc we bought our cars because they are fast, and the fact that DSG is faster is one of the multitude of reasons why it's better than a manual in my opinion

Your argument makes little sense. What about if he wanted a faster manual car or is that not permitted?  :rolleye:

Just because you don't care that a DSG is fractionally quicker than a manual as boggo standard, does not mean you don't want your manual to become hugely faster than a boggo standard manual!

On the subject of things you CAN'T say, you can't say a DSG is better than manual. You also can't say a manual is  better than a DSG. They are two very different ways of getting down the road, and as many have said previously, it depends what elements are more important to you.

I personally prefer a manual as I think there is more 'driving' involved, and a tenth of a second is a price I'm prepared to pay for that involvement and complete control  in what I want the car to do, and when to do it. Others will disagree, as their personal preferences will be smashing 1/4 mile records at the Pod. Fair enough.
