help! stereo removal
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:26:01 pm »
quick bit of help if possible please :)

attempting to remove my stereo so i can fit my alpine head unit.

followed jonathans guide ( http://www.jonathansblog.net/comment/9645 )

got the top dash off, got the fascia surround off, removed the 4 screws for the head unit, now i cant get the head unit out.

all the guides i can find say pull the stereo out, i'm having to prise it out and it isnt comming out willingly.

i've been trying to leaver it out with some screwdrivers behind the metal tabs that hold screws that hold the stereo in, but it feels like its still attached to something.

is that usual and i just need to use a bit more force, or am i doing something seriously wrong?

thanks

apparently there are 2 tabs that clip in to the underside of the head unit.

bit more leavering and they pop out.

new stereo wont fire now and it looks like someones been here before me (looks like the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo in it)

also seems like alpines own wiring harness wants 2 power feeds.

While it will let you daisy chain one off the other, it wont let me do it the way round i need to for the Golf.

so sunday evening was spent wishing i had 3 hands, with a screwdriver in my mouth to get the tag down so i could get the cable out of the socket and swap it round to its new home.

fingers crossed it works now rather than setting fire to the head unit or the car.
