The torque that the 335d delivers is mind blowing, it pins you in the seat from 2nd gear through to 150+ leptons, no feel that it ever runs out of steam. Sounds brilliant as well.

But it just doesnt have the fun factor that some people crave. You can drive it on the limit with dtc off and it behaves itself well and stays composed. As a fast point to point car it cant be beaten, very very difficult car to replace as well!

If the missus uses it for everyday stuff (30mph zone stop start traffic everywhere) like school runs, shopping etc it gets 30-32 mpg. On a recent run to the autosport show average of 80-90 it returned 46mpg. Drive it carefully and use the low throttle torque to your advantage and I have seen 50mpg on occasion.

If you ever venture up this way both the 135i and 335d are usually here, feel free to take a drive in them.

So true robin, I'm having a really hard mental debate. Its gonna be so hard to get rid of it.

Have you tried a GTD?

I'm almost certain I'll get a 123D when I get rid of my edition 30

+1

Liked my old 120d but not a patch on my ED30, however I think the 123d would be a closer match with economy as a bonus  :happy2:

Msport ride is very harsh from memory but you can get some nice carbon fibre bits to make it stand out, lots of ££££££ though!! :surprised:

i think people need to realise we are talking about diesels here so the engine will never feel like a petrol, the 335d is awesome, but is very much like a 123d in its delivery, bmw do not make hot hatches that can be compared to golf, frs etc...., hot hatches become less fun when they become sensible, bmw diesels are sensible, you have to see them for what they are, fast, comfortable, well built dailys, swapping my meg for one was the hardest car decision i have ever had to make, why? because i knew it would not even come close in terms off fun driving, but how often do i have fun driving? not a lot and the bmw is better for 99% of the time, a 135i is a different matter, if you can live with running costs, its better than any hot hatch 100% of the time imo, my point is driving one for an hour you will be trying to do the fun thing comparing to the ed 30, that won't work, i didn't even test drive mine for that reason.
BMW 335d msport touring lci. Auto, estate and diesel! Oh no

You jump in a Golf and it's easy, you can grab it by the scruff of the neck and drive it 10-10ths straight away - so they're great fun. You jump in a fast RWD and it takes time and confidence to be able to exploit it, so you initially think it's not as much fun... but learning rewards and fun comes in bucket loads.

My 135i does 30mpg, the newer N55 engines do even more. It does not do that when you leather it though. 20k servicing, £240 tax and the power & chassis to keep pace with a Cayman S on track straight out of the box. They aren't comparable to Golfs.
Sideways yo!
