Autotech internals paranoia!
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:42:44 pm »
Hi Guys,

Got Autotech HPFP internals fitted yesterday and pretty happy with the result! However due to many horror stories read here of fuel mixing up with oil I took of the oil cap and the oil after 2 hours drive smelled a bit like petrol. At first I thought it might be leaking but then took my missus GT for a ride and the oil smelled exactly the same. Am I getting paranoid hot oil smells a bit petrol like??

Cheers
Paul

With direct fuel injection on any engine you get slight fuel saturation. My oil smelt like petrol at standard tune so dont worry about it. Only worry when your oil level goes up and you know you havent put any more in lol

If it was fitted ok you should have no problems. I have done up to 80 k on mine now.

Oil does have that overall 'petrochemical' smell especially when warm and it can be easy to think that you are smelling petrol. When my HPFP/Autotech internals failed, there was no doubt - it absolutely stank like petrol. If it goes, you'll know!
