Complete workshop setup - What and where?

I am looking at replacing all my kit with proper tools, but on a budget. I know everyone recommends Snap On, but are there any other decent tool manufacturers out there that don't charge the earth? I will doing this in stages over a period of time so don't need to buy everything at once. I'm just tired of scrounging for tools all the time only to find I broke the one I need.

I am also looking at jacks. Something decent that won't break the bank, but be able to life my Jetta and the wife's 4x4 to a decent height.

Be interested to see / hear what you guys use and recommend?

Halfords Pro hand tools for me.

If you can get hold of a trade card or know someone who has one even better.

Halfords pro stuff is fine, I have sockets, screwdrivers, spanners etc  that have been used daily for 7+ years and is still perfect. You get a lifetime warranty and they are very cheap is you can get a trade card.

The key point is you have alife time guarantee.  I always buy my tools from halfords for that reason.  oh an i have a trade card as well  :grin:

Excellent, so it seems the Halfords Pro stuff is decent then and I guess you can't go far wrong with the Lifetime guarantee. Now I need to beg someone's trade card.............  :happy2:

You wouldn't be anywhere near Surrey or Worcester would you Sy? Lol.

Just an alternative .....

I have always used Teng stuff, it's pretty good you can but stuff in sets which fits in your toolbox conveniently and you can buy rebuild kits for ratchets etc etc.

On top of that

gear wrench 10 and 11mm ratchet spinners
gedore 10 and 11mm combo scanners
Gedore 8/10mm and 11/13mm brake pipe spanners never leave home without them

another vote for Halfrauds pro here  :happy2: helps that my mate gets me 40% off with his trade card too :happy2:

as for jacks, especially with a 4x4 there is only one i would ever consider and thats Hi-Lift, i'm very experienced in offroading and theres no other jack i would ever lift a 4x4 with  :happy2:

I used to use my dads Snap On tools all the time as he's been adding to his collection for over 30 yrs so has pretty much any tool I'll ever need but when I moved out I bought a tool box kit from machine mart for around £500 n then built it up from there. As far as I'm aware, most of the tools have lifetime warranty on them too, same as Halfords. I've taken tools back in the past without receipts etc if they've been faulty and so long as they can see u haven't been abusing it or using it incorrectly then they just give u a brand new one straight away. I'd say they're just as good as any other tool for domestic use but I always buy a cheap set of sockets/spanners etc just in case I'm doing a job which needs a special tool for but no one has one for sale locally at the time do I'll just take a cheap tool and adapt/reshape it to suit

i have snap on a blue point stuff and even draper stuff and it could be worth a look on ebay to see what tool boxes with tools come up for sale  :smiley:
