REMAP ???
« on: March 13, 2012, 12:42:02 pm »
I am going to get a remap done on my mk5 golf 1.9 tdi, the problem i have is knowing where to go and what sort of price i am looking at. I have been quoted £150 with someone which is good ive heard but i have also been told the £150 map will not be a custom map and will be sort of a standard map and i am having lots of bits put on soon like a filter and exhaust etc so i'm maybe thinking a need a proper custom map done and if so where do i go ?

A £150 map wont be great, will be a generic file probably. But does that make it bad?

I would prefer a generic file that has had lots of development and testing that a custom map made by someone that doesn't have a clue. Anyone can buy an OBD interface like KWP2000 from ebay and use a hacked copy of WinOls and claim to make custom maps.

Firstly work out what you are getting for your money, is this a genuine custom map based on datalogging and dyno testing, by a software engineer that has plenty of years experience with your car and engine, or a custom map based on plug in a laptop and hope for the best?

Custom means nothing these days, everyone claims to be making custom maps, I have seen 'custom' maps that only have 2 maps altered by block percentages so work just like a plug in tuning box.

I have actually seen this guy do i map on a new shape astra van and it made a massive improvment so i know that his maps are good but i just thought been as how everyone brags about these custom maps that maybe i would be better off getting a custom map which by the sounds of it, unless your prepaired to spend a fortune your not going to get anything better than a standard map

What made the map on the Astra van good? I'm not saying it wasn't, but what a customer percieves as good may be very different to what a tuner thinks when they look at the map.

Are these 'custom maps' Dyno tuned, datalogged and checked?
