Need help with OEM speaker wiring
« on: March 14, 2012, 11:53:34 am »
Hi, I am in the process of getting some parts together to upgrade the sound system on a VW Tiguan. I'm using the factory stereo and will be adding a 6 channel line convertor to convert the speaker outputs to RCA's and run 2 sets of components via a 4-channel amp and a 12 inch Sub.

On removing the door card I expected to see 2 wires going into the door woofer but instead found 4. How do I wire up the new woofer which only has 2 connections (+ve and -ve)? Also the components have a crossover which needs to be wire up too. I've not checked how many wires going to the OEM tweeter yet.

Not sure really. I assume they are crossed over somewhere so ideally I need to find the wires coming into the door from the car and use those to connect directly to the crossover inputs then output separately to the woofer and tweeter.

i'm only really going by whats on the golf has when its only woofer/tweeter in door, the cross over for the OEM tweeter will only be a small capacitor, so if you find the tweeter and eliminate the 2 wires going to that, the other 2 in your pic will be the supply wires from the stereo.

also if you look closely at the connector and speaker in your pic it should have a plus and minus sign on, if you need the full wiring diagram, let me have the year and the engine code from your car and what model of stereo it has in it and i'll send you a pdf of the VW wiring from a program called Elsawin what vw use at the dealer.

Hi mate

when you start elsa, click on ok once you have scrolled to the bottom of the advice box that comes up, then look for a yellow warning triangle this leads to the wiring, a box like this will then open

enter some info like i have done but for your car, its found inside the front page of the service book, now after you click ok something like this should open

scroll down to the radio info and click whatever radio you have then the diagrams will open up

you can only use it with acrobat 5/5.5 or no pics will be displayed, hope this helps you.

as has been said if you have 2 front speakers two will be in from the stereo and two will pass on to the tweeter check the wires colours at the tweeter.  You can also break the plastic plug apart and remove the wires.

Thanks. I have a double skin on the door so need to find the wires coming into the door from the stereo and intercept those before they go to the factory crossover, then connect them up to my component set crossover box. I'm also using a 4-channel line convertor so going to use existing speaker wiring in the doors as the rubber connectors by the hinges aren't big ebough to run new cabling.  :scared:
