holy boost leak batman!

Ill upload pictures tonight.

Changed my.divertervalve today with my spare day off work and jessssus iv never seen.anything so torn in my life!! to make things worse there was oil in the socket connection which was random. installed the forge spacer but thibk ill remove it next week lol.. Id forgotten how hard these things pull wheel spining 1st and a lil 2nd on dry tarmac?! whooaaeehhh!! Im soooo happy to have my old girl back its like shes had a broken leg and now its fixed she's a tap dancing alright! Found that i do have a leak too.. cant quite work out where it looks like its around the middle back im thinking of taking her in to a garage to have it properly looked into.

Pull your under tray off n look at the s shaped pipes wi alloy brackets on that come outa your i/cooler. Thats where i reckon iv found my leak. Its only £8 for new seals. Worth a look when its that cheap. Hope this helps

Yeah i think i will, tray looks easy enough  :happy2: , for the coolant leak right? i've found my boost leak - the dv valve. just can't work out wear my coolant leak is from. Don't think i made it quite clear in the first ops

Some quick images

You can see all the oil in the socket here, there was some around the diaphragm but i think it could of been wd40 from where i was trying to get the bolts a little looser.




Heres the actual Diverter valve Diaphragm, Now when i pulled the valve out of the socket the thing actually feel apart, as in the spring and the pin and diaphragm simply fell out over my face, that was quite worrying. Some of the images are of the and the actual lower bit was only just holding on around the top section (where its joined to the pin) so really it was only on literally by a few threads of rubber.

wow that looks f@%ked. How hard is this to change? tools required etc? my 56 has done 100k im sure if everyone else's is knackered mine might be too and it doesnt seem as quick as when i first got it that could be me though. Cheers

Not hard at all if you have some basic skills. The only tools i used were allen key, socket wrench and some extensions. You could probably happily do it with a allan key, i forget what size i used but im sure someone will post the size needed.


If its a k04 then the valve will be at the front of your car, if it is a k03 it will be under neath the car towards the back by the turbo on the driver side. Its three bolts. the higher you can the the car the easier and I found removing the skid plate gave me just that little extra room to work with. Theres loads of DIY and instructions online.

Can anyone tell me how you would know if this needed changing??  I only got my Ed30 a month ago and it feels fighting fit  :happy2:  Is there a distinct lask of power?  At certain revs?? Labouring the engine??

Is there a point when it should be checked i.e. a certain mileage?  I'm just coming up to 40K.

Just want to make sure I am experiencing ALL the power I SHOULD be getting..... :wink:

The car will feel sluggish and most likely raise a P0299 fault code.  The only sure way of checking is to remove it and visually inspect it.

If you have access to VCDS logging requested, actual boost and N75 duty cycle will confirm a boost leak or not. Then you need to get the spanners out.  :smiley:

+1 on both those comments.

you can expect lower mpg as well, try putting it into fourth gear and in a low speed and rev range put your foot flat down on the fun pedal, if you hear a whistle then thats another indicator (read that somewhere) and when driving sensibly in 1st or 2nd low speed and low rev my car mad a juddering feeling which it hasnt since fixing the dv. I think overall your car will just feel slow or not as responsive, the more worse the tear the more sluggish it will feel like mine, I mean i felt like a 1.2 could beat some of the rev range was so flat  :signLOL:

I'm currently experiencing a very sluggish car at the moment - and yes, feels like a 1.2 would piss all over it some times!

The boost seems spontaneous to say the least - sometimes it will feel quick - sometimes it will hardly move and judders.

I've got the part numbers for the revision D DV and will change the PCV valve whilst at it....hopefully this solves it and puts a smile back on my face :happy2:
