Mt Ed30 is going to be mapped in next 4 weeks and yes the Pesky's could do with a refurb too  :happy2:

Neither!

Not until you've enhanced the car's handling so it works with the extra power of a remap better. Also brakes!

Then remap before wheels refurb.

I'm with you on that. The extra power soon highlights the weakness of the standard brakes  :chicken:

....That's a question with many answers! There's quite a few options and each at a variety of cost. If off the shelf and you got around £1,500 to spare then I'd naturally suggest the well proven AP Racing 4-pots. But check out DaveB's threads - He really is an expert on all the options and knows how to be cost effective.

It also depends if you want to do occasional trackdays or not.

Thanks robin,not to sure about the track,I live out on the edge of the fens so get to have a good blast now and again with nobody around  :driver:

So it's what's termed 'Fast Road' use for you.

The car itself doesn't actually know whether it's on track or on road, it's more that on track it's subjected to much longer periods of being driven hard and using more braking extremes. Consequently, as DaveB can explain better than myself, frictional heat and recovery is what it's all about.

It's possible to cook standard brakes without a remap, it all comes down to how you use the car and also what pads / discs you've got - fit some pagid or endless pads (assuming they do them in the GTI fitment) and you'd probably notice a much wider termperature window.

Driven enthusiastically on the road I don't find I have too many issues with the stock brakes (my car is stage 1 Revo K03), but I've little doubt that with continuous hammering they show their shortcomings. I've only found the stock brakes wanting when towing a car trailer, and once when driving very enthusiastically (on the roads surrounding the N-ring).

I'd quite fancy a lightweight 4 pot setup on the front, but I don't think I'm hard enough on the brakes to justify the cost on a road car. I've got over 50% pad left on my car after 40k miles, so generally the stock brakes aren't worked very hard in my case.

As for the OP's question.... I'd go for the remap.
