Costing on painting front end of mk5
« on: May 09, 2009, 03:44:34 pm »
Hey guys looking for some info on what you would expect to pay at your local bodyshop for the front wings, bonnet and bumper touched up to get rid of stone chips?

I went to see a local guy yesterday afternoon about the above on my ed30 and was qouted £970  :scared: :surprised:  and that he would need the car for a full week! Now the guy is really good but I'm shocked at the price just for a small job! I was expecting £500/600 tops! Obviously I'm goin to shop around!

Any info would be appreciated  :happy2:

Rough guesstimates are between £100 and £150 per panel....so 4 panels = £400-£600 :happy2:

In my last MKV golf some old dear reversed into the drivers side door and I had to have the door re-skinned and 3 panels painted. It came to just under £600.

There's no excuse for silly quotes like £700 for a bonnet !!

My mate will do my bonnet and front wings for £300 (mates rates) and he's still making a reasonable profit (this is a proper job, full oven bake the lot). Strangely, my front bumper is relatively chip free but my bonnet is peppered??

problem is that materials have rocked in price since the industry moved to waterbased, the lacquer for my mk5 cost 600 quid alone

600-700 sounds ok IMO

as Cocopops (lee) has said , bodyshop reckoned that it would take 11hours labour to do the work, £50 an hour rate for a vw garage bodyshop to do it. That was including wings /splitter/front/bonnet. Way over priced for what needs to be done, so that idea got shelved and spent money on better things.

Admittidly this was for my MK4 but I've had panels painted at a very well respected (that means expensive) bodyshop and it was about £300 a panel.  But they do a top job!

Hi,

MP Auto Refinishing

Unit 4/Quarry Hill Ind Est/Quarry Hill, Horbury, Wakefield, WF4 5NF

They did my previous golf, - fitted whole kit, respray etc.... bonnet.

They are professional people - they did mine immaculately ( as you can see on my topic )

They don't bullsh*t you around, and they do the job properly - 4 blokes that work there all from professional backgrounds.

My point is they charge £200 a bonnet spray....  front bumper spray probs £225,

They have a good reputation so they are always busy - they'll probably be a 2 week wait before you can get in.

They'll also be doing my wide arch kit - and i know im in good hands :happy2:

Celica - If the splitter wasn't that bad I'd leave it! But every time I see it really bugs me  :jumping:   Plus I like my car looking tip top  :innocent:   Still going to shop around for the best price!

08MICSTA - Thought about the wrap option but don't think there's many good wrapping company's near me in Scotland
