Overprotective dad ?
« on: April 03, 2012, 07:46:06 pm »
My daughter is 16 and has just asked can she go camping up the local mountain with a group of friends in may. She is a sencible girl. Although a little nieave. She has asked on numerous occasions and I've always said no. Is it time I let her grow up ?

Do you know the other girls she is going with? In other words, are they a good or a bad influence in your opinion.

What does mum say? My guess is that she's more reluctant to give permission - Mothers usually are much more precious (considering the burden of pregnancy and pain of childbirth etc!)

A mix some good others need bathing in holy water. Mum gave it the old "ask your dad ". She finished her last boyfriend because he came on too strong. Although she won't let me kill him  :fighting:

We were allowed a lot of freedom as kids, mainly because we were responsible and never got in bother. We knew full well we'd be crucified if we ever got in trouble. so really appreciated our gift of trust - I guess you have to let her prove she can be trusted some time, so it's time to cut the apron strings.

I think it shows maturity that she's asked you and was honest about what she's doing, rather than pulling the old "we're all staying at x's house" and sneaking out camping.

I say let her go, and as much as it pains you, leave her be for the night  :happy2:

I'm digging a cellar. I have a plan - something I saw on the news....*

It's funny actually, as Liz has just passed my Issy's first babygrow she had on just after she was born. It seems tiny already! Hard to think she'll be growing up so fast.

*NB - not the incest part

Sideways yo!

Tell her she can go, as long as you can go too

Or tell her she can go when she's 21  :happy2:

Not much help really, was I?  :ashamed:

Have 2 daughters, both older than that. Only my opinion but ler her go. As you say, she is a sensible young lady and no doubt honest with you, you must trust her.
Due to my over worrying and paranoia I have phoned other parents  to confirm "parties", "sleep overs" etc to see what's what, mainly to make sure BOYS  :fighting: are not involved as we all know what they are like (after all we are still them, just older!)
