i have gone from standard gti to K04 and love it. It has transformed the car totally - the same practicality with sports car handling and performance. That's why I decided to keep the golf and mod it as opposed to going for m3 and likes.... One of the biggest advantage of modded golf is apart from practicality, TFSI engine is very economical once driven sensibly something you would never get with bigger engine. Also maintenance cost are lowish due to relatively small engine - servicing costs, amount of oil, spark plugs etc something to consider when car used as a daily driver.
Putting K04 still retains standard gti smoothness and drivability.
Note however that with more power supporting mods are required. Big brake kit is a must and better suspension something to consider as car becomes lightning quick and before you realise you might find yourself in illegal speed territory.
Fire away if you have any other questions
