Hi had the Gti a week now and noticed the coolant temp doesn't seem to fly up and sit at 90 deg as expected.
Is this common or sign to take to garage? It's under VW used approved warranty, cam belt was changed last week but not sure on water pump.
It's seems to be between 70 and 90 always regardless of how the cars being driven.
Grateful for and thoughts cheers.
Has it been cold with you this week? How long is your journey? Is it an early GTI with the AXX engine? (04 to 06 roughly)
Mine can take an hour, yes an hour, to get up to temp on cold winter days driving at steady 50 / 60 mph type speeds. Had the sensor and thermostat changed and made no difference. A poll on here showed it was a commonish 'feature' of the early engined cars.
Could very well be a fault as indicated above, but the type of sensor used on the mk5 GTI engine is different to the fault prone type used on the mk4's etc so isn't really a common fault anymore. But don't rule out that its 'normal' ... I've spent some time trying to find a solution to this as its bloody annoying in the middle of winter. MPG doesn't seem to suffer though. Thank christ for heated seats!
