Welcome to Macdom, PDT
The bottom line is that any crashed computer, whether running Windows or Mac operating system, is only as valuable as a stone. And, like cars, computers can go wrong occasionally.
However, the Mac OS is far more intuitive to use and both hardware and software much more enjoyable and logical. There will be a learning curve and you may have to run an emulation program so you can still use some of your specialist software which won't run on a Mac, but as FAG Carl and VC say, it's all do-able. Stu knows his stuff too.
It won't be too long before you start to forget your Windows habits and wonder why you didn't move to Apple products sooner. Windows work, but Macs work better!
My daughter has been brought up using both Windows (at school) and Macs (at home) and when I offered to buy her a laptop to use at uni and asked her which she wanted, I received a very disgusted look and the answer that it was a no-brainer - Mac of course!
