I'm almost certain that's a few years old, like as soon as the MK6 was launched.

18-20yr olds shouldnt be in a car like that! My insurance wouldnt insure me for a hybrid turbo on my derv as i hadnt been driving long enough in a more powerful car, sensible idea to be honest!!

I don't completely agree with that statement - I only had use of a 170bhp car when 17 and didn't come to any harm. If someone is going to push the boundaries in a car, they'll do it with whatever they have at their disposable. To deprive sensible individuals because the few cavalier ones cause trouble is not reasonable.

Education is a better solution than blanket enforcement of strict limits.

It's not a GTi though is it?
I can't believe that the tree didn't snap in half from the impact??

That's the one thing tree's don't do, move... Lamposts, telegraph poles, road signs all disintegrate in circumstances like this. Trees lose a bit of bark at most..

....At the risk of being pedantic, trees do move - They flex and hence don't break easily unless subjected to extreme forces of Nature. The absorption of energy at impact with a substantial tree will be insignificant and not enough to save lives.  :happy2:

Makes me feel sick when I see photos like those.

My eldest daughter is learning to drive and it worries the s**t out of me that young people don't appreciate the inherent dangers in fast road driving. A car is a SOLID lump of steel, weighing upwards of a tonne, hitting anything at speed (never mind an immovable tree or lamppost) with a soft fleshy person inside it is only going to end one way, badly.

Just read thread on here today and one comment from a chap/lady was something along the lines of how he/she had a race in their MK5 with another person in a porka and beat him. So f**king what?? Keep it to the track I say and then maybe some poor parents will be spared that dreaded knock on the door.
