I know you say 5 door but no reason posted.

I would suggest a Mini Cooper diesel. My mrs has one 58 plate and on a run does over 60mpg and £20 to tax . Don't know when the stopstart engine started but our will be for sale for around £8750 soon so if she can find one about 60000 miles she might get it for £7k
and
The car is so much fun , really nippy fine handling car. Insurance is cheap and 20k service gaps or 2 years

She's changed her mind and is happy with three door. She doesn't want any jap or pacific rim cars. She doesn't even like citroen. She really wants an Audi but understands it is out of her budget and would not be able to handle the running costs.

It is going to boil down to: renault clio 1.2 (turbo/eco model), Pug 307 1.4, ibiza 1.4, Fiesta (not sure about spec but her work car is a fiesta too). She has decided a golf/leon etc are too big for her needs.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

She hates lupos but wouldn't mind a polo.
