VWR Exhaust
« on: April 28, 2012, 04:04:24 pm »
Looking for some info on the VWR Exhaust.

I'm currently working offshore and having issues viewing the pictures of it on their site.

From what i can see it looks like a lovely exhaust.  I'm not looking for something too loud.  I've been considering a Milltek Resonated item but wouldn't mind knowing if anyone on here currently has the VWR exhaust and what their opinions of it are?

All of their products look great and well designed.  I like good quality products and don't mind spending a little extra for the right thing.

Anyone know a rough cost for it also?

Thanks

Stuart

Hi Stuart and a Warm Welcome to the forum where we all help you spend loads of money on modding your car!

Milltek are/were a sponsor of the VW Cup and make VWR's exhaust systems. The main difference AFAIK is that the VWR back box is shallower.

I don't know if VWR offer a Resonated (which is quieter) version but Milltek's Resonated is only a bit louder than standard. Non-Resonated is louder but not boy-racer-ish.

Thanks for the reply.

Thats interesting to find out that Milltek make these exhausts.

I'll give VWR a call when i'm home and see how much they charge and talk about the resonated vs. non resonated.  Perhaps, from what you are saying, you can use the Milltek resonated section with the VWR back section?

Cheers

Stuart

I think it would be a good idea to hear a Milltek Non-Resonated if you can. It may not be as loud as you perhaps fear and you may find the Resonated version gives you less 'wow!' for your money. Sound is very subjective.

There are quite a few guys locally with the non-resonated one.  I think i'll try and blag a passenger seat ride.  I'm not overly concerned about exterior noise levels, more how loud it is inside the cabin.  I've driven an Integra DC2 for 4 years with a Spoon N1 exhaust and i got a little fed up of not being able to hear my passenger speak!

The Golf is supposed to be a step in the "grown up" direction, so silly loud exhausts are a no go!

hi

i test drove 2 cars with VWR resonated exhausts and they were very quiet. almost quieter than OEM i would say

i went for non-resonated and it sounds excellent. its not noisy or intrusive at all. just slightly more sound in higher rpm but under normal driving you would never know. at motorway speeds its no louder at all

i wouldn't advise a resonated milltek/VWR but would 100% recommend the non resonated. plus its about 8kg lighter

Is yours a VWR item or a Milltek?  Any idea on the price for the VWR one?

Cheers

mine is milltek

couldn't justify the extra £200 for VWR tailpipes. its the same exhaust basically.

....Except that the VWR back box is shallower and so the sound will be slightly different too. Unless Milltek have now changed their supplied backbox to a shallow version for their direct sales. Worth a call to Milltek perhaps.

Cheers, Steve - I knew they were considering it. Definitely an improvement visually from the 'builder's bum' look!

I have a vwr exhaust on my stage 2 edition 30, turbo back. The differences I found from when I was looking at systems was the 'R' on the tailpipes instead of miltek, a shallower smaller rear suitcase silencer, and the system is resonated in the usual bend just after the centre section BUT it's defo smaller than the miltek resonator!

Sounds good round town and better when you plant the loud pedal! Although saying that I'm gonna make it non res I think

Thanks for all the info guys.

The general consensus is that if i want to be a VW fanboi, then buy the VWR item, but if i want to be sensible and buy the same exhaust for cheaper, then buy the Milltek and most like a non-res?

Thanks again

Stuart
