Open fog grilles for mk6??
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:59:23 am »
I know this should ideally be on the mk6 forum but there's more chance of someone that knows looking on here.
Is there a 'hotter climate' open grille for the mk6 gti like there was on the mk5??

I've asked my parts man but he said he needs a chassis number or reg of a car with them on...

Given that no car was actually released with the open grilles (AFAIK), it's very unlikely they would then spend money making something that they weren't going to use.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

You'll reduce the airflow to your front brakes if you fit open grilles. So you'll have poorer braking. So tell your insurance company if you do it.

Surely its opening the front to more air thus more air making its way to the back of the brakes

The aerodynamics are affected. You will reduce the amount of very high pressure air created by the closed grilles (and the rest of the front bumper/splitter design). This design forces the air under the car, from where it is diverted up into the wheel arches and cools the discs.

If you open the grilles you should fit special 'intake pipes' to re-create the high pressure airflow to the discs.

Just remember the eggheads at VW spend 1000's of man hours and the odd million on wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics.
