Battery Drain, RCD-510 fitted
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:04:05 am »
I know there's a load of threads about this but I couldn't find the right one I was looking for so I thought I'd make another one :P

Right so the problem as usual is the battery drain after fitting a RCD-510.... I'll contact Eddie about getting a new gateway, but what does he have to know for him to code one and send it me way? I've got no access to vagcom-vcds so I that going to be my starting problem?

Thanks in advance, looks like I'm walking to work today lol

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I think there's a way of using a quick fix (like two 12 gauge wires) and a relay fuse so it switches off. Fixes the problem, but its a quick fix until the gateway arrives?

I'm actually quite stuck, my fuse box doesn't match up so I can't seem to quick fix it!
Can anyone shed any light on this? (I can forward you a pic)

Jonny where are you located as some members with vcds are not on the official list?
Without traction power is nothing!

I'm in Cumbria, there seems to be no-one round here with vcds or GTI's  :scared: There's only about 4 mk5 gti's round near me, 3 have drivers in there 60's and the other is my mate who just bought his.

I think I'm sorted now as I've ordered a new gateway thanks to Eddie, just a matter of fitting once it arrives :)

Yeah it's behind the cubby draw near the light switch, looks a pain to get at but hopefully fingers crossed it won't take too long :D Just need to recharge my battery  :rolleye:

You can actually remove the piece of dash trim that sweeps up from the footwell to where the coloured trim strip slots in.

Makes it a heck of a lot easier than contorting yourself into the footwell head first to try it!!

Good luck :)
