I have a slight issue with the pads slightly dragging the disc and so they are heating up even when not really in use.
The only thing I havent done is bond the pads to the anti rattle shims.
HAs everyone else done this?
On my mk2 Golf with 996 front over 305x25 - (pads not bonded again) I had no probs...maybe the thinner disc?
I literally had smoke pouring off them even after a relatively tame drive. No fade tho!
Jim, are you still running the NQS BBK on the 312mm discs?
I have this setup and, although the pads are meant to skim the surface of the discs, that kind of heat should not build up without some pressure to push the pad on to the disc. However, if you have new pads and are running the anti-rattle shims, there is no doubt that it is a tight squeeze but should be OK unless it is a phat pad of some kind.
I fitted the RS4-2 pads a few months ago and it was tight. Not enough to force the disc to the pad but still close. For this reason, I removed my antirattle shims and just put a healthy amount of Ceratec on the piston faces. No squeel this time and I think the mm or two extra space that the shim removal created allowed the pistons to retract just that little bit more. I would give it a go.
PS Have you ever experienced brake judder with your setup?
